It's peak season for citrus — so it's the perfect time to cook with oranges and lemons.

They provide an important vitamin C boost in winter and they're versatile in the kitchen, too.

If you're stocked up from a backyard citrus tree or a recent trip to the shops, you might be looking for ways to use up that delicious fruit. We've got you covered.

From delicious cakes to tray bakes, here are five citrus recipes from Julia Busuttil Nishimura to try this winter.

Double citrus syrup cake

Everyone loves a good lemon or orange cake. But have you tried a double citrus cake?

In this recipe, Julia uses lemons and oranges for a double citrus hit.

The cake is light and fluffy and topped with a sweet and sticky citrus syrup.

Add a dollop of yoghurt or cream and you have yourself a perfect treat for afternoon tea.

Orange, honey and soy sticky chicken drumsticks

These drumsticks are cheap, delicious and easy — and they're marinated with oranges.

Julia remembers her mum making these drumsticks when she was a child.

"This is my version — a dish my own children now love and enjoy," she writes.

Again, this dinner is cooked on a tray, which saves washing up. Julia likes to serve the drumsticks with rice and steamed greens.

Lemon and almond yoghurt cake with roasted strawberries

This cake is lemony, bright and perfect for afternoon tea.

The roasted strawberries add something a little special. The trick is to roast them until they're soft but still holding their shape.

If you can't find strawberries, you can substitute plums, apricots or other stone fruit.

One-tray chicken dinner with lemon and thyme

Tray bakes are my kind of cooking. Everything is assembled, cooked and served on the one tray, which means almost no washing up.

This version pairs chicken with lemon zest, garlic and plums. While plums aren't in season at the moment, you can play around with flavours to make a tray bake of your own.

"Minimal effort for maximum results is what we're talking about," Julia writes. Sounds good to me!

Marmalade pudding with oranges

Marmalade pudding is the perfect desert for a winter dinner party.

It's ready in just over an hour, and you'll have most of the ingredients in your pantry and your fridge.

The base is made from orange juice with the added sweetness and bitterness of Seville orange marmalade.

"The spices of the batter keep the pudding humming along — it instantly feels like a big warm hug," Julia writes.
